Albert Park Lake V Patterson Lake -a washout

Master in Virginal white. Servant toiling.
Well it was very, very wet. Patterson Lakes v Albert Park Lakes.

I called Patterson Lakes secretary to call the game off at 11.30 am but there was no reply. Pretty clear at that stage there would be no play. The other number didn't work.

Arrived at the courts at midday and started sopping in the rain! Waiting for a call back. Nothing else to do.

When Deano came a half hour later I was singing "Desperado" At least the rain had stopped.

Alan was told to stand by and I'm sure Vic was just looking out his window and laughing at our pathetic efforts. I actually told Deano to go home I was so sure of a washout. Deano even refused to put tennis gear on! He was sure it would be a washout.

At 1pm Patterson Lakes still had not returned my call so it was a waiting game. Both captains have to agree on a washout otherwise we could lose if they turned up and were bolshy about playing.

Eventually at 1.15 the opposition came and after driving for 40 minutes they were ready to play.

So Vic and Alan took over sopping duties relieving in earnest and we managed to clear all the standing water off the courts.

Correct water removal.

The courts were still very wet underfoot but not dangerous. I play most winter Sunday mornings in worse conditions and have never seen anyone slip and hurt themselves.

There was a division in the team as to whether we should play. Even the president had an opinion as to whether play should occur. It was a very difficult decision but captains agreed Court 1 was playable at 1.45pm and Court 2 at 2.15pm

So Vic and Alan played their no1 pair (a couple of children) and amazingly won in a tie break 6-2 3-6 7-6. Well done lads.

Deano and I played 1 1/2 matches and just lost the first on a tie break 7-6. At 3-3 in the second game the heavens opened up and there was no more tennis.

A HUGE thanks to Dean and Alan for filling in for the troublesome Gallium Greeks and for Dean again for his great shots with camera and racquet.

Dean was seriously "bagging" the courts for about 4 hours on Saturday.
Next week we have
Dean, Neal, Alan and a guy called Mark playing Mordie away.
