Roll Over Beau Morris

Round 4:   Roosters Roll Over Beau Morris

A fine afternoon; a beautiful day for tennis; another chapter to be written in Roosters’ history. Never before had this quartet – Neale, Brian, Peter and Forrest – represented Albert Park. Those who analyse team selection might have noticed that, once again, the Roosters had a doctor in the side, something that makes everyone feel better.
Opposition – Beau Morris (whose dad, Russell Morris, had a big hit with ‘The Real Thing’ way back when) – was an unknown quantity. Beau had called up a Bayside emergency, our old mate David from Highett – a very handy player.

Neale showed initiative and nominated himself and Peter as one pair. There being no objections, grizzled pair Brian and Forrest strode onto the adjoining court and found themselves confronted by a PAIR of lefties. Ah Deano, we need you back. And we need your lefty’s backhand.

Once into it, Forrest announced the game-plan: ‘Line and length, Brian, line and length.’ Brian could have been excused for responding that this is a cricket mantra. But he got the point. Roosters oldies played smart, efficient tennis and prevailed over Lefty and Lefty 10-3. Meanwhile on Centre Court, there was much puffing and blowing. Peter had uncorked an imposing grunt, while
Neale simply uncorked like one of his best reds. Too strong and too steady they were, coming home 10-7, giving the Roosters a handy break at half-time. Brian was so relaxed he toured the Beau environs, seeking food.

Reverse matches were much closer. Although it was apparent midway through that the Roosters could NOT lose, pride demanded maximum points and a percentage boost. Forrest and Brian played like yo-yos – surging ahead, falling asleep, surging ahead, etc etc – but with a tiebreak in sight held firm and also held serve to come home 10-8. A feat matched by Brian Bandanna and Dr Peter, whose professional skills were not called upon. A good win for Roosters: 4 rubbers to 0; 40 games to 26.
Beau was graceful in defeat, turning on quite a spread. Only people missing were Bruce McAvaney and, oh yes,

SPECTATORS. Come on, people; Beaumauris is NOT Ballarat.
So. After Round IV, Roosters are in uncharted territory at 3-1.
And are back home at the Chookhouse next Saturday:
Team (as per roster): Peter, Nosti (YES, ONE Golden Greek is back, dripping with Vegas bling!), Mark and Forrest.

Beware of Greeks baring balls
On we go.
