Sweet Victory!

Well Roosters it was sweet victory on Saturday and we have every reason to crow as we have consolidated our position in the top 4 by beating the team which has been on top for most of the year -Kooyong. Humourless bastards. We are really now a chance this season to go one step further than last year's heartache and win this thing.

As you can see it was as tight as the club's liquour cabinet and at 2 rubbers all, 5 sets all -it was up to the number of games won -51 to 48. We won by 3!

We had our A minus team -minus Nick our best player. He was on holidays up north and he sent this post card below. As you can see he's sponsored by Third Reich tennis wear this year, replete mit lederhosen.
Bloody marketing people and their branding.

who wears short shorts... he wears short shorts

The pairing was controversial from the beginning as the greeks that were once golden had a hissy fit over some sort of economic bail out package set up by the hun (pic above) and split up. As for austerity measures Dennis the tennis menace sure looked and played like they were ignored.  On Friday Dennis went down the list of players looking for a substitute -got to the captain's name and decided that even on one leg he was not going to let this one go. And what a brilliant pair the 2 D's were! Dennis and Deano -their 2 rubbers won -freakin' champions!

Nos and Alan played well enough to win both their rubbers but fell short. Their game scores contributed to a well deserved victory. Again, well done.

A big thanks to the 2 Peters, Joy, Zo, Bec and the venerable Kevin for coming.

So, prior to this match this was the ladder. 1/2 a game up and a bit of % over Mordi. AP cockers are doing what they're good at; coming from behind, right at the end, so to speak. We need to keep winning so out of the Greeks, Deano, Nick + Al whose available for Saturday?

Finally here's a really interesting bunch of stats about  individual roosters that may blow away some "myths" about our pecking order (sic). It's based on this year's Summer results prior to the weekend. Stats don't lie folks.

The ranking based on the above performance index is:

1 Nick 155%
2 Dennis 113%
3 Deano 104%
4 Nos 100%

All pretty predictable but the bottom 4 is interesting (nota bene Den)

5 Yuri(!) 89%
6 Al 85%
7 Vic 81
8 Neale 74 (SHAME!)
9 Mark -numberless - what ever happened to that controversial Polak?

BTW What is "pos" and "Av.P" on thos stats?? Any guesses?
I'm guessing Al for example is the 36th best player out of 47 in the comp.

Next week we play the Lakes away. They're top. Practice 6.30 Thursday as usual.

That guy in the shorts. Wasn't he a leader some time ago. And his holidays must have been a long way north. I agree about the branding -it's everywhere. Bring back all white and we'll be all right roosters!
