Men's Penant Results Round 13

Rd 13 was a memorable one for the team. We recorded a singles victory - 3 rubbers to one over strong opposition in Ringwood Catholic TC.

Special mention to Alan who dug deep for the team and held on for a 6 – 4 in the 3rd set win just as the sun was beginning to fade. This team effort puts us into finals territory (refer to the ladder below) and the following matters to consider coming into the last round of the regular season (Rd 14).

  • Firstly, the team is currently in 2nd position and is now guaranteed a place in the finals as we cannot finish any lower than 4th place. Congratulations to everyone for this achievement.

  • Dunstan Park are only 1 point in front of us on the ladder in 1st place, but we are VERY unlikely to catch them with 1 round to go because they play 2nd bottom side (Glen Iris Valley TC) and so are likely to win 4 rubbers to nil and so win the section.

  • For the team finishing on top of a section, they receive a small pennant, but the bigger prize (and a much bigger Pennant flag) is for winning the overall Grade (there are 4 sections in Men’s Grade 9).

  • Remember in the first sectional final 1st plays 4th and 2nd plays 3rd. Teams placed 1st & 2nd get home ground advantage.

  • For the sectional finals and beyond, we can play different players for the singles matches & doubles matches if we wish (eg. 4 singles players and then 4 separate doubles players).

  • Finals will continue for 4 – 5 week if we win all the way through to the Grade 9 final. It is “possible” that beyond our first sectional final, our next finals match(es) may be scheduled on a Saturday OR a Sunday – (it does happen that some finals are scheduled on Sundays), but all are played at neutral club venues. I will not know until each week’s results come into the office.
