My (FAILED) agenda for AP AGM 2016*
FOCUS ON CIVICS
I'd like to put to next year's
AGM these changes to the constitution:
a- a vote for a 5 year
limit on time on executive.
b-a vote to make it
compulsory to have one woman on executive
(my
preference is half).
This is in line with modern
standards and practice.
c-a vote to have at least:
one men’s team
one woman’s team
club champs: men and
women’s singles and doubles
and if we can’t
field these teams then we ask members on the waiting list (in order of their application)
to step up and play. These players have no other membership rights. They just
play in these comps only if we need them to keep them going.
d-Electronic Voting
in 2015 is physically
getting to the club house really the best way to vote? For a start we don’t
know the candidates or their agendas until the day of the elections.
We should introduce
electronic voting for all members at the AGM as well as vacancies when
committee members resign. Can also be used for straw polls on other issues and
concerns. We now have the technology so we should use it.
e-Fixed dates for the AGM,
Committee Meetings and Club Champs
Introduce a fixed calendar
of events which will be posted on a functional website at the beginning of
every year.
f-If a committee member
decides to run for executive and fails then they should still be able to run
for the committee in the following ballot.
COMPETITION
FOCUS ON COMPETITIVE TENNIS
Suggest we dedicate one
night a week to competition tennis.
At present I play @ Port Melbourne regularly on Tuesdays in their comp. It’s
successful, has a lot of players in a variety of age groups. We should also look
at combining forces and have a comp with players from both clubs.
FOCUS ON BETTER
COMMUNICATIONS
The club’s connection to
the outside world needs to be updated.
Fix the web site and make
it updatable and functional and entertaining.
Revamp the newsletters
using MailChimp and a more elegant mailing list be established.
Connect the club with the
times through Facebook, Blogger, Instagram or Twitter.
AND FINALLY
The club needs:
a drinking fountain on the
far side of the court.
to get rid of all
the signs on the fences.
stop subsidising alcohol
and spend the savings on on tennis balls.
Cease the use the outside
heaters (for environmental reasons)
stop gifting alcohol for
Club Champs (disconnect the link between sport and alcohol.)
and find a more elegant BBQ
solution.
-I’d love to organize a
yearly Noosa/ Albert Park-PM match (we have an apartment there) down the track.
