Match Report Aug 2 2014
Albert Park v Hurlingham at home, 2 Aug 2014
Hurls 3- Roosters 1
Spray It Again.
Good news. Sunshine.
Bad news.
Only One OK court,
and one extremely soggy court.
Unplayable for hours.
Which meant all Roosters honed their squegee-roller skills.
Brian, especially, seemed to bond with the roller. Could be friends for life.
Was always going to be tough against Top Dogs Hurls, who had their gun number-one pair in action.
While Alan Attwood and Bruce rolled, Brian and Skipper Nills battled valiantly but were Hurled.
Roles were then reversed. Alan and Bruce took to the court; maintenance continued on soggy second court.
The sparse crowd was treated to a thriller. and I mean a thriller.
On serve until 6-6. Game for game.
Then Hurls edged ahead as Big Mike found his Goran serve.
3 aces in a row etc etc. others unplayable.
Reverse rubbers were played on TWO courts, the second one being playable - just.
If you don't mind soggy balls and spray rising up off the court.
Alan and Bruce managed one more game against top dogs than The Roosters Number One pair.
But just when it seemed bragging rights were theirs, Brian and Skipper Nills uncorked a beauty.
A COMPREHENSIVE thumping of a sagging Hurls Number Twos. To pull out a valuable point. 10-3 win.
Highlights:
The Skip's lairy, slogan-enhanced shirt. "It take Balls to play tennis"
(ummmm not quite the correct Clubhouse tennis team attire)
Brian's hat and swinging serve.
Bruce's let-go-of-the-racquet trick. Plus his enthusiasm.
Alan getting an edge off a booming first serve which spooned up and landed square on the head of a passing little old lady.
(nearly knocked her out)
And a splendid spread shared with amiable opponents. Who were very impressed by NJ's snags.. Chizzerous. A great tip passed on via Nosti.
They really are the best BBQ snags after a match.

Captains Comments
Thanks to all spectators.
Including Peter Jasek. just back from the continent. and ready to play in next weeks team
Vic. for early warm up hit.
Yuri for extraordinary Bay 13 comments
Ron for helping to work out the 'F'ing' oven
Sascha and little Sacha for fantastic support and eating all the 'fairy bread'
Nick for letting Dave babysit the kids while he had a deep and meaningful with Yuri.
But the funniest act of all.-
was the Little old lady who swore at Alan Attwood in Spanish - Greek and Maltese about being 'Clobbered' on top of the scon from a sky ball.
There is a contact out on his life and we think Alan has gone to ground..
The funny thing was no one had the courage to ask her for the ball back.
What a day
What fun.
Thanks to all.. Truly memorable.
Hope the kids are all right after falling out of a tree.
So many distractions... no wonder we lost.
But there is always next week... Go Roosters!!!
Also.. Captains Note.
The 'best' are selected every week.!
Cheers
N.
