Roosters defeat Manly to take title

Round One - Strange Days Indeed

Well, Round One of a new season is often, well, interesting...

New courts; new opposition etc etc.

So it went on Saturday as a cobbled-together Roosters team - with both Vic W and John C leaping off the bench, for which we are grateful - faced the prospect of a No Show.

1.15 rolled past; then 1.30 with no sign of the men from Centenary Park.

So it began, under match conditions - an internal showdown: Vic and Neale v the Old Guys, John and Forrest.

Let the record show that OGs were leading 4-3, with JC to serve, when Centenary Park arrived  - at 1.55pm.

With a tale of woe.

nick's lack of a flag.

They were all emergencies and had been given false info etc etc.

So it goes.

First two rubbers were forfeited. Last two rubbers were played.

Third might just as well have been forfeited too, as the OGs continued on and dropped just one game in two sets.

Neale and Vic had more of a match, and were one set all when Vic had to race off to attend to a domestic drama, meaning last set was forfeited - fair enough, as CP came away with something for their efforts.

We wish Vic, and his Mum, well..

So Roosters open account for Summer 2013-14 with an easy win.

OH yes - ask Neale about post-match on-court entertainment.

Watch his eyes mist over when you ask him about Little Bo Peep....

You really had to be there.

Neale was happy HE was.

Right up there with the famous backpackers episode.

CLUB NEWS:

AGM: we now have no playing roosters on the committee and only Alan and Yuri attended the AGM.
This club needs to regenerate and this will not happen without support.  Three of the four executive positions have been held by the same people for 20 years and over. Time for change roosters.
