Final Words: WE WON!!!

Grand Final

Albert Park v Parkdale, 22 March 2014

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. So here's the picture
(L to R) Bikie Wilbury, 'Nicholas' Wilbury, Forrest Wilbury, Andre Wilbury

Albert Park's Travelling Wilburys FINALLY reached the End of the Line on Saturday at Dendy Park.
Nailing a men's pennant for the club: appropriate timing in the 130th anniversary year.
Fitting, too, that the flag was won over our longtime rival, the boys from Parkdale. Who fought hard, as we knew they would.

The result: Albert Park won 3 rubbers to 1; 6 sets to 3.

Highlights: first pair Nicholas and Andre proving as solid as expected, jumping Barry and Perry with a 6-0 first set.
Which was handy, as on the adjoining court Bikie and Forrest Wilbury were slow out of the blocks, losing the opener.

Then showed Roosters spirit by bouncing back to take the next two 6-1 6-3. Even former skipper N, scarred by many finals setbacks over past seasons, declared the position 'solid'.

Then the boys came home, with N and A sealing the deal. B and F came within a handful of points of nailing the first set, then became distracted by all the flashbulbs.
MANY thanks to the cheersquad, which included some current Roosters:

As above, plus Curvy Wilbury (centre) and Sunnies Wilbury (right).
Also on hand (though left before photos for media commitments) Roosters veterans Nosti (with the lovely Maria) and Dennis Wilbury.

Thanks also (and please forgive any inadvertent omissions) to Peter, Ron, Michael, Jacqui, Kerry and friends. Much appreciated.

The final was just part of it. This season started way back in October. The really hard yards were covered in some of those unglamorous early games on dusty, distant courts.

This pennant was won by ALL Wilburys. As well as those already mentioned, take a bow Brian, Mark, Peter, Bruce, Paul, Vic and Deano (honorary Wilbury).
Sometime, we must try to get an All-Wilburys photo. TBA.
So that's it from me.
Winter season starts 3 May. Negotiations continue with his agent, but a Jolly Good Era may well lie ahead.
Thanks to you all, Forrest

And in the words of the Willburys

Well it's all right, even if they say you're wrong
Well it's all right, sometimes you gotta be strong
Well it's all right, as long as you got somewhere to lay
Well it’s all right, everyday is judgement day

Well it's all right, even if you're old and grey
Well it's all right, you still got something to say
Well it's all right, remember to live and let live
Well it's all right, the best you can do is forgive

We even cracked a mention in the Club's newsletter:
"It is believed that this is the first Men’s Pennant since the early 1990’s. Arnie reckons 1992. "
Whatever it is it's a great effort!
