The Colts from Kooyong (apologies to Andrew Peacock)

It was a real team effort on Saturday that saw the team overcome Oakleigh Tennis Club in the QTR of the Grade finals.

All team members put in over what was a VERY long day as we finished at approx 6pm.

Of special note was Dennis Klapas saving match points in his 2nd set singles match to eventually win that 2nd set 7/6 and also Alan Attwood who saved set points in his first set to then go on and win his singles match in straight sets (7/6 and 6/2). Both these achievements proved decisive in the final rubber and set tally.

Of extra special note was the support from other team and club members who came along to Kooyong to support us. Special thanks from everyone to Kevin, Vic & Yuri who all came down to cheer us on.

The final scores were 3 rubbers to Albert Park and 2 rubbers to Oakleigh with the final doubles rubber declared incomplete as we’d got an unassailable lead.

So – we have now reached the semi-final stage of the grade and play either East Burwood or Knox City for the right to play in the Grade 9 Pennant Grand final.

No information yet on the semi-final opponent, match time / location etc but it’s likely to be Saturday afternoon at a neutral venue. .

Team selection for the semi-final will again be confirmed by 9.30am this Friday morning, following assessment of current injuries and current form and also team match-ups.

As has been the policy for our finals campaign, we’ll be fielding the strongest possible team for the day.

For those that can make it, there will be some training at the club this Thursday night from 7.30pm.

That’s all for now guys…………..
